Special Education Department

The Special Education Department at Tolleson High School has eight certified teachers and seven instructional aides, providing support for approximately 200 students. We implement the inclusion model, meaning special education students participate in the general education curriculum to the extent appropriate.

Our department implements some computer-based learning via the Read 180 program, the Math ALEKS program, and Nova Net. Our Life Skills program is very active, participating in Special Olympics and the Best Buddies program. One of our students was awarded a $1000 scholarship in May 2008!

The philosophy of the special services staff is to collaborate as a team, utilizing their experiences, resources, knowledge, and creativity in order to provide appropriate services and accommodations to students to stimulate, help, and guide them to develop emotionally, intellectually, and vocationally to the best of their ability, always remembering why we are here…All Students Can Learn!
