A Message from Superintendent Jeremy Calles

Superintendent's Message: May 2024

There is a lot going on this month and if you blink, you MAY miss it! We are closing in on the end of a school year but whether you are a senior or an underclassman, this is just the end of a chapter, and your story continues.

I want to speak first to our graduating seniors and the family and friends who support them. Thank you. We exist to support you and we share your joy and pride when we see you walk across the stage at State Farm Stadium or when we hear you up in the stands shouting for the one you have come to support. I’ll be talking with you more soon, from the stage.

I next want to talk to our soon to be Super Seniors. Mike Tyson (Google him) once said, “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”. I want to give you my definition of a Super Senior. I see it as someone whose Superpower is to be resilient. It’s easy to walk on the stage when everything has gone right but when times are tough, then your true character is revealed. My oldest son was a Super Senior, and I was very proud to see him graduate. I know it’s harder when your friends have already left, but stick with it and I hope to see you over the summer and back here for as long as it takes to get your diploma. 

I want everyone else to know that we have big plans for next year which will begin with Commitment Day. Our podcast, The Education Exchange, will launch soon and we will be sharing all the details.

In addition, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our teachers, staff, and parents for their unwavering support and commitment to our students' success. Your dedication helps create a nurturing and enriching learning environment for our students. I hope you find some time to recharge over the summer and you start our next school year full of positive energy!

This month is a month of transition as we quickly shift from celebrating the year’s accomplishments to focusing on how we can better serve our students next year. I hope you all have time to snap that extra picture, say that extra thank you, and shake that extra hand because when everything is moving a mile a minute it is just too easy to forget to pause, take it all in, and thank those who make it possible. On that note, I thank you all as I thoroughly enjoy being a part of your story.

  • La Joya Community High School – 1:00 p.m.
  • Sierra Linda High School – 4:00 p.m.
  • West Point High School – 7:00 p.m. 

Tuesday, May 21

  • Westview High School – 1:00 p.m.
  • Copper Canyon High School – 4:00 p.m.
  • Tolleson Union and University High School – 7:00 p.m.

All graduations will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
