Career and Technical Education

The Career and Technical Education Department prepares students for a wide range of careers. These careers require varying levels of education – from high school and post-secondary certificates to two and four year college degrees. Career and Technical Education covers a variety of challenging fields which are constantly evolving due to the changing global economy. Some of the career areas that students may enter through Career and Technical Education in the Tolleson Union High School District include:

  • Accounting & Financial Services: bookkeeper, accounting technician, certified public accountant, stockbroker, estate planner
  • Allied Health Services: fitness trainer, athletic trainer, physician
  • Culinary Arts: apprentice chef, pastry chef, prep cook, executive chef, food and beverage manager
  • Education Professions: early childhood teacher, preschool director, elementary and secondary teacher, special education teacher
  • Family and Consumer Sciences: fashion designer, fashion buyer, hotel manager
  • Information Technology: systems manager, computer programmer, hardware/software support, Web page designer
  • Marketing, Management & Entrepreneurship: entrepreneur, advertising, public relations
  • Trade and Industry: automotive technician, carpenter, draftsman, welder, sheet metal worker, production manager, engineer, contractor, architect

Tolleson Union High School CTE educators constantly review and update their classes to reflect business/industry standards along with rigorous Arizona Academic Standards which prepare our students to meet the demands of our changing economy. CTE classes develop the skills most sought after by employees, including:

  • Strong academic and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong technical skills in the field they choose to work in.
  • Employability skills of teamwork, communication, and effective work habit

Business Department

As a part of the CTE program, we are pleased to offer courses and programs designed to help students lay groundwork for a successful climb towards college experience and rewarding employment. We help students explore career options, pursue leadership, and build skills that will assist them throughout their lives. We encourage all students to take business courses; this will simulate the rigorousness of the present work force.
